The 500mm f/4G ED VR was the wildlife lens of its generation and a lot of them are still out there, often as a second body lens alongside something newer. At 3,880g it goes in and out of a bag more than the bigger primes do.

This cap is made for the front of this exact lens and clicks straight on, no adapter ring and nothing to thread. Two stainless springs hold it, so it comes off with one hand and goes back the same way, gloves on. The raised anti-slip ring lets you rest the lens face down without it sliding.

It clears the HK-34 hood forward or reversed.

About the 3D printing. It is not hobby filament. It is fiberglass-reinforced engineering plastic, printed by us in the USA, with stainless steel screws and springs.
