The AF-S 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR is 4,590g of lens that spends its life on a tripod at a distance, which means the front element is exposed for hours at a time and gets covered in a hurry when weather arrives.

This cap is made for the front of this exact lens and clicks straight on, no adapter ring and nothing to thread. Two stainless springs hold it, so it comes off with one hand and goes back the same way, gloves on. The raised anti-slip ring lets you rest the lens face down without it sliding.

It clears the hood mounted forward or reversed.

About the 3D printing. It is not hobby filament. It is fiberglass-reinforced engineering plastic, printed by us in the USA, with stainless steel screws and springs. It resists heat and moisture, which matters on a lens left set up in the open.
