The 400mm f/4 DO IS is the diffractive optics lens, 2,100g and far shorter than anything else at this focal length, which is why travel and birding photographers hold on to them. This cap fits both the original and the II.
This cap is made for the front of this exact lens and clicks straight on, no adapter ring and nothing to thread. Two stainless springs hold it, so it comes off with one hand and goes back the same way, gloves on. The raised anti-slip ring lets you rest the lens face down without it sliding.
It clears the ET-120 hood.
About the 3D printing. It is not hobby filament. It is fiberglass-reinforced engineering plastic, printed by us in the USA, with stainless steel screws and springs.

The lens cap exceeded my expectations. Perfect for my large lens
I was totally amazed at how they fit both my canon EF 400 mm and EF 800 mm lenses. They slip into the end of the lens and are snug tight where they don't shake loose or fall out.
